Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Everyone has heard of testosterone and it is probably the most widely discussed hormone.  We are bombarded with ways to boost it and it is typically associated with fitness or virility; however, testosterone does much more than make our muscles bigger.

What is testosterone?

Testosterone is the main sex hormone in males that is responsible for what makes us  men such as a developing a deeper voice, increased muscle mass, hair growth, and sexual function. However it also affects out bodies by altering our metabolism, blood pressure, cholesterol, cardiovascular function, and bone density. In the brain, it stimulates our sex drive, enhances concentration, affects our emotions and even our ability to think and form memories.

An estimated 25% of men over the age of 30 have lower than average testosterone levels. There is nothing normal about a 40 year old male having the testosterone level of a 70 year old, but modern medicine deems it “within normal range” even though he experiences a poor quality of life that can easily be improved through testosterone replacement therapy.

Do I have Low Testosterone?

The Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male (ADAM) Questionnaire was created in 2000 to aid in the assessment and diagnosis of testosterone deficiency. It consists of ten questions about symptoms of testosterone deficiency commonly seen in men with low testosterone. Answering these questions honestly can help to identify if there may be an underlying issue with testosterone levels.

Testosterone Therapy Procedure

Newport Men's Health takes into account the symptoms an individual is experiencing in combination with their respective lab values. After a comprehensive physical exam and history, we test both your total and free testosterone along with a full hormonal, metabolic, and hematological profile for a complete picture of your health. If your symptoms and lab work are consistent with low testosterone, treatment can begin immediately.

Newport Men's Health looks at the complete picture, not just one lab value. Studies demonstrate that the “normal” testosterone ranges held within the standard medical community are inaccurate and many men suffer needlessly.
